The 2nd CCOP Strategic Plan Working Group Meeting

The 2nd CCOP Strategic Plan Working Group Meeting convened from 10-11 September 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting focused on formulation of the CCOP Strategic Plan 2026-2030, building upon 1st working group hybrid meeting discussions and incorporating valuable insights from all working group members. Mr. Marcus Richard Dobbs, Head of Engineering Geology, British Geological Survey and Mr. Chen Shick Pei, Honorary Adviser to CCOP, former CCOP Technical Secretariat Director chaired the meeting.

In the welcoming remarks, Mr. Yongzheng MA, the Director of CCOP Technical Secretariat, noted that the preparation of the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan is progressing on schedule and expressed appreciation for the constructive suggestions and contributions received to date.

The meeting engaged in discussions to refine the CCOP Strategic Plan 2026-2030 in an effort to ensure that the strategic plan aligns with international conventions and addresses the region’s evolving geoscience challenges and needs. Members engaged in detailed discussions and reached consensus on the vision, mission, strategic aims, and objectives for the next five years. Each working group member presented the country report outlining key national programs, achievements from cooperation with CCOP over the past five years, and opportunities for future collaboration under the forthcoming plan..

The development of the CCOP Strategic Plan 2026-2030 represents a significant step toward fostering an inclusive and resilient East and Southeast Asia through enhanced international geoscience cooperation. The finalized document will be submitted for review and approval at the 85th CCOP Steering Committee Meeting, on 7 November 2025 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
